When Schools Hire Food for Children, Who Gets a Seat at the Interview Table?

Why We're Sharing This
What if school cafeterias started interviewing food candidates differently?
The UK is taking a step in that direction. New school food standards, set to take effect beginning in September 2027, will place a greater emphasis on vegetables, fibre, and plant-based proteins, such as beans, lentils,
and chickpeas.

The revised standards will also encourage meat-free days and better accommodate vegetarian and vegan dietary needs.
It's an interesting shift: instead of simply asking what schools should serve, we're beginning to rethink what school meals should accomplish.
The Hire Your Food Question
When schools hire food for children, the job goes far beyond filling hungry stomachs.
The interview panel needs to consider children's health, their developing food habits, their enjoyment of meals, and the planet where they live.
And if beans and lentils can do the job, shouldn't they get a fair interview alongside meat?
